We've come so far yet changed so little

`I do not agree with what you have to say, but I'll defend to the death your right to say it.'
Voltaire

I am not prone to falling back on quotes. But now I know why its tempting. Someone just put it so damn well! What Voltaire said some 200 years ago is going to guide this blog. So I definitely don't like what many of you are saying but feel free to say it. (The comments that you see removed are auto-deleted by Blogger for spam or other abuse) Do remember though the more crap I need to wade through, the less I can engage in interesting, insightful debate.

Some clarifications:
When I said Cannes - I was referring to the Cannes Lions festival that's the advertising and marketing festival, has nothing to do with the film festival. Get on to the site see some of the really cool stuff that marketers from around the world are doing.

For some reason a lot of you think that I came up with that cartoon strip. Come on, tarry a bit, look before you leap.

Hey Anu,
This is NarayaN. You seem to take in most questions - but again n again n again avoid ONE SIMPLE Question.
Do you think all the people who watched that 'crap' movie belonged to a 'herd of pigs'? You aint no Cyrus Broacha and even he'd only spoof or pull-a-leg on celebs and big shots - not on any particular set of people. What make you think that Tamilian-Indians are nothing more than a herd of pigs? You think we aren't educated (edj - uu - k8 - ed) enuf? You think we dont understand better 'quality' movies? Even if you meant only a part of the Tamilians - what prompted you to include that sentence?
This is definitely not a way to spoof.
Do you have an answer?
Rgds,
NarayaN

Hey guys chill. The woman said its her personal comment and its her own opinion, we live in a democracy my opinion will differ from yours we should allow for that. I can bet that if everyone of us who has commented writes up an essay on some of the issues surrounding us we will be at loggerheads at some point of time for sure. At the same time whats wrong with you guys when you ask questions like wether Anuradha thinks wether we are educated or not. Do you think the dynamism and characteristics of a particular people will be affected or determined by a reporter voicing her own personal views especially if the truth is far from it?. To be fair to her (it is my personal opinion) that she did not mean to denigrate anyone and it was merely the wrong choice of words used.

Having said this I think anuradha you would do a better job at expressing your views if you word yourself properly. This is merely because when a person writes something as opposed to speak about it the tone and emotion are totally lost among the readers and often leads to gross misunderstandings. Finally all you people who are giving veiled threats to her, grow up a bit learn to handle your problems amicably, how different are we from pigs or how educated a community are we when we threaten a fellow human being?.

As for some of the comments which suggest respect each other etc so do not comment on sivaji blah. This is the attitude which pushes us towards brushing issues under the carpet. Today you will say do not comment on the movie because it hurts somebody but what about stuff like AIDS awarness which gets brushed under because it hurts religious sentiments?. The sum result is more kids gonna get AIDS and they are going to suffer. The crux of the matter is when you want a dynamic and healthy system argument is necessary and one can be assured taht it will ruffle feathers. It is in situations like this taht one needs to show how civilized a society we are so everyone wake up and stop being hyypocrites it is killing us.

Hi Anuradha, First you need to understand the reason's behind my replies to your post's, it was not your thoughts about the movie sivaji which put me off but it was your comments on the people who had watched Sivaji. Anuradha Life is all about making choices and everyone knows what to choose and what not to. I am a kind of person who is open to all kinds of cinema, i enjoyed watching city of god a Brazilian movie as much as children of heaven an Iranian movie(with English subtitle's of course). You cannot compare a movie like sivaji with Forrest Gump or crash its like comparing dosas and pizzas or expecting a dosa to taste like a pizza or vice versa, they both taste different but they taste good. My all time favourite hollywood actors are Tom hanks, Julia Roberts, Anthony Hopkins, AL Pacino, Robert DE Nero, recently i watched the movie The pursuit of happyness and i was blown off by Will smiths performance so he has become the new addition to my list, in the same way i like watching Rajnikanth movies kamal hasan and vikram movies, i like all these actors because they infuse their individuality into the characters they play. The Movie sivaji may not have appealed to you but it has for people who like watching Rajnikanth, here you just chose not to buy the thing that was sold to you, that was the choice you made and your choice deserves respect in the same way people who made the choice to buy it deserve the respect too, you cannot blame them for buying it, it was their choice. If watching movies like Forrest gump alone and turning blind to other kind of movies is being intellectual in other words ignoring the varieties which makes life look so vibrant and colourful is what you call as being intellectual then i would rather choose not to be an intellectual.

Is this a publicity gimmick by CNN IBNLive?? imagine the increase in hit rate to this site jus becos of these series of blogs??

I was jus wondering, why would a reporter put her personal views n thoughts openly on a website owned by the firm she works for?? Was'nt she aware of this silly fact earlier?? Or wat on earth made her realise this all of a sudden and prompted her to create her own blog jus for heck of it??

Any takers??

guess she got what she deserved from her seniors and she has come now atleast come up with an own blog of hers :)

the blog of urs on sivaji was not a review on a "crap" movie you didnt like -- it was jus a review by a north indian seeing a south movie.. thts what has irked so many people and has come up with so many comments. I have not read any review of urs on any north indian movies. well why didnt you put up a blog post stating "nishabd" was CRAP! or was it not, coz your favorite big b acted in it?! its plain straight that its just a north/south fight you guys want to start similar to most articles in rediff nowadays.

i sincerely feel that sivaji was not the best of movies though rajini did a lot better than his other movies and infact there are far more substance movies in tamil than sivaji .. wonder why you didnt target any of that?! well if you did, then you would not have had so many visitors to ur site :-) u carefully chose whom to target - cunning lady you are...

and more and more pathetic was a blog by ur fellow blogger with lotsa racism stuff... ask that guy to go hang himself than living with such disgusting and pathetic thoughts in his mind. and he has a name tagged as "sexy" -- joke of the year

Hello Anuradha,

Well I feel that your first blog on Sivaji was great. Now I have not seen the movie (and I do not intend to [not even the hindi version if they dub it]. The trailers of the movie are good enough to make a decision. I mean just because majority liked it and that it made CRORES of rupees cannot be an argument for it to be good. Even Mithun's C grade movies were succesful. You have every right to voice your opinion. If other people have not like your opinion then it is their headache. I fail to understand the mass hysteria and this hero worship. In any case cheers to you.

The most entertaining part of this entire episode has been the various comments. Awesome guys !! Thanks Anu for starting this off. Convey my thanks to that moron Sanjeeb too.

S said...

No matter how hard I try to desist from making a hurtful comment, I just fail. Thats not because I am a bad person. The most polite comment that I can write about this whole episode would be the worst that she has seen.

Does she hate harry potter movies? How abotu james bond movies? Does she analyze them? The mere fact that she tried to analyze a movie that is not supposed to be analyzed speaks volumes about her immaturity.

Shivaji has NOT promised food for your gray cells. Neither did it promise to be an emotional drama. Shivaji is supposed to entertain. And it did just that. With this background, all her blogs are nothing but a cry for help.

And oh by the way there are other indications that blatantly show is needs to grow up. They are:
1. using words like crap on a news website. She might as well use fuck.
2. a stupid cartoon strip that doesnt seem to make sense.
3. In the first blog she ever posted, she said Tamil Nad instead of Tamil Nadu. She corrected it later. People who go to great extents trying to pronounce and obscure foreign name correctly see it insulting to pronounce Indian names correctly.
4. Back to back blogs and response to comments which were ewually pathetic
5. She said she was graceful because she let the commentors have the last word. But her saying that has nullified any amount of grace she thought she had.
There are many more, but she doesnt deserve and more energy or effort from me.

Voltaire - "Prejudice is opinion without judgement."

Bloggerripper - "Opinions are like assholes. Everybodys got one, but FBB Sengupta's stink.

And the prize winner from Voltaire again - "A witty saying proves nothing."

So your usage of smart, sarcastic language will take you nowhere. Except perhaps place you firmly on the shitlist of many of us.

As some one rightly pointed out that your grey cells are coming out. And at this age you post cartoons of yourself ,That too on a website of a respected channel , which you work for. Shame on you , This shows how immature you are.

I have never ever seen such a immature person in my life.

You dont care about yourselves , Atleast care about the channel you work for.The channel which supports you in each and every aspect of your life.

Your BLOG has caused an public outrage against the channel.

You should apologize to the public and that too on the official blog of ibn live and end this episode.

That , If you think are responsible towards your channel.

This is my suggestion. Rest is up to you. But i dont think u will do that as some one again rightly said " That its too late for you to learn some manners and atticates in your life. You have chosen to be an egoistic , arrogant and superior person " And that is what you will do.

Shme on you BITCH.

Hi Anuradha,
I was going through this blog and was wondering why people were using such language against you, which was not right. But when i read your review about sivaji,it made me sad.Frankly you should not have used words like pig and the most disappointing part was your comments on the people who came to watch the movie.Of course you are entitled to your own views and i respect that but you should have never expressed it in public forums.Your thoughts might have provoked many(not only Rajini fans but anyone else who have liked the movie). And let me ask you what then is a good movie, according to you, come on movies are just for entertainment and not for social preaching. You go out there and enjoy, never look out for any logic, just sit and enjoy. An ordinary man just needs this and nothing more,he doesent care about the logics, and any finer naunces that film critics see.He just needs entertainment after a hard day's or weeks work and nothing more and a majority of the films are taken for those people and beleive may there are milions of them like that.So if you have not liked the film you are welcome to post your comments about the film, but not in such a derogatory manner. You are working in a respectable position and people will value you comments and i hope you deal with this in an appropriate manner befitting our stature.
Also dont take the coments of other people seriously, however it might have hurt you.Wait am i advicing you, certainly not and i have no rights to do so either, but simply expressing my thoughts.

I am hoping you put an end to this.

Anuradha nonsense Gupta
--------------------------

Wow , What a woman. Her Looks are nothing to write about. She is FAT , Dark and short. Her features are no where to be seen , Exactly like her friend Menaka doshi , Who is also a equal stupid and wears Nighty covered by jackets on prime time business shows. This is a whole group of mental retards operating out of CNBC , Who joined the Cnn Ibn bandwagon. I am from the media industry myself , But I haven’t seen such immature people in the media industry in my whole career of 20 years , As have been brought by this TV 18 group.

Their looks were nothing to talk about , Now they are out there to prove that their mental status is no better. Being a Editor of a respected channel this mentally sick woman comes out with a post and calls “Sivaji – The boss of CRAP and everyone who watched the film a PIG”that too on the official website of the channel in her official position.

And when she saw the public resentment about her comments growing then she quickly moved out of the website and launched her own blog , To post all the crap she has to post , calling it “interesting, insightful debate”. That too she did with a particular trade mark of hers , which proves how big a mental retard she is and shows that she is a case of immaturity at its Peak. What she does is that she Posts a “Fucking pathetic cartoon of hers” portraying all the fucking pathetic Childish crap which she has in her mind. But one thing I must add in here , that the body of that cartoon is far better then what her real body would be.

What a maturity , Shame on such people. I Heard she is unmarried , God bless her for staying like that . Because if she would have been married then I fear to imagine what harsh time her husband would have to go through , While spending life with such immature woman.

I don’t know whether sivaji is the boss of CRAP or not , But Anuradha for sure is the Queen of crap.

Anonymous said...

An unbiased reader may be uncomfortable reading few extreme views / comments (“Can you leave this mentally deranged 'correspondent' alone?”, "Have patience for the retarded mind", “Meet a shrink ASAP”, etc). What the author of this blog says ("We've come so far, yet changed so little") applies to her too.

Anyone chancing upon the excerpts of Anuradha’s CNN-IBN interview in March with A.R. Rahman will wonder why such interactions with great icons still didn’t help this privileged news editor with the right perspectives on success. Reading the following extract may give the right therapeutic effect :-)

Anuradha SenGupta: in Swades, you used the Shenai for the song Yeh Jo Desh Hai Tera?

A R Rahman: Yes. I was doing the song in UK. I was there for events and took a day off. I was looking at the trains from the windows. That's why I think it’s got so much of feeling.

Anuradha SenGupta: You were actually longing for desh?

A R Rahman: Yes. I was longing to come back home.

Anuradha SenGupta: Indians revere the sound of Shenai because of marriage celebrations. But the first time I connected with the sound was in this song.

A R Rahman: Me too I think. Sometimes it just happens.

Anuradha SenGupta: What does A R Rahman do when not working on music?

A R Rahman: This is a notion. I mean, how can you just go to another version? There are not enough lifetimes to go into music. And how can you just go into something else?

Anuradha SenGupta: But how do you unwind? This is also your work.

A R Rahman: There is no unwinding; this is unwinding. When you write a piece of music, the satisfaction that it gives can’t be equitable with anything else.

Anuradha SenGupta: So this is not work?

A R Rahman: This is not work, I don’t think it as work. When I think of it as work, it shows and you wouldn’t like my music then.

Anuradha SenGupta: Well, we hope that you continue to enjoy what you are doing because I don’t need to articulate just the kind of emotions your music manages to evoke, the places where it takes us and the people it sometimes makes us become. So we hope you remain blessed and keep making beautiful music.

sivaji rao - relax buddy.. save your hostility for the slut and the wimp who degraded a national icon and made him look like a joker. You need to understand the mind of an average middle class man in our country. He doesnt own country club memberships or go on trips abroad to rejuvenate and relax his mind. he spends around 50 bucks, sits in a movie theatre with his family, and gets transported into a world where heroes like Rajini kickass, sing, dance, entertain.. and get the girl in the end as well. We all identify with superheroes dont we?? Its a mind thing.

So if a man like Rajini has the ability to bring joy to our common man, hell, we should be idolising him and not calling him crap. Ironically, in a democracy its the masses that matter, not individual opinions. Sure she can voice her opinion, but if its controversial for the masses, be prepared for the brickbats too. So you and I may not watch his movies or appreciate his stunts, but lets respect the fact that he brought joy to millions, and made them forget their problems, albeit just for 3 hours.

Yellow journalists like anu, John and sanjeeb rode like leeches on Rajini to get fame for themselves. Its like a parallel industry of the worst kind. parasitical to the core.

Lets not cuss amongst ourselves, lets work towards booting such pathetic bloggers off the public domain. Cheers!!

Anuradha Sengupta is a journalist in CNN IBN. Nobody took notice of her. Nobody even cared whether she existed or not.

It was from the moment she started to TRASH-TALK about our “THALAIVAR” SUPERSTAR RAJNI and his latest movie SIVAJI in her blog, she became the one-stop spit-stop for all DIEHARD RAJNI FANS. This was her road to become famous.

If you still haven’t checked her article about Sivaji, plz chk it out.
1. This one started it all, the moment it was uploaded, in a matter of hours 4000+ thrashing comments landed in the website ibnlive.com
http://www.ibnlive.com/blogs/anuradhasengupta/164/2061/sivaji-the-boss-of-crap.html
She became scared to death after seeing the responses.

2. She made things worse, by commenting on the fans now. Again she was thrashed with terrible comments.
http://www.ibnlive.com/blogs/anuradhasengupta/164/2079/thank-you-sivaji.html

3. Later she was forced to apologise publicly in her own blog.

RAJNI IMPACT!
She stopped writing in IBNLIVE, and opened her own blog in blogspot.
http://senguptaspeak.blogspot.com/

She also roped in her colleague Sanjeeb Mukherjea for her support, who failed miserably.

I completely agree that Anuradha should not have made such immature and rash comments about the movie and the people who watched it. She has no right to hurt the sentiments of a particular group of people.

But then i think anuradha and all those people who are using derogatory language against her (and against each other !!) are all the same.

Immature and mannerless

Anuradha says: "Do remember though the more crap I need to wade through, the less I can engage in interesting, insightful debate."

It's GIGO (Garbage In, Garbage Out)! If you write crap, you'll get only crappy response. Here's another example to learn how to write a good blog. This blog attracted 1,431 useful comments.

GHAJINI.

Guess where I am as I write this? I'm sitting in A.R. Rahman's studio in Chennai!!! We are here to work on the songs of Hindi remake of GHAJINI. Rehman is sitting to my right leaning against his piano, Prasoon Joshi, who is writing the lyrics, is to my left, and in front of me is Murgadoss, the director. Quite appropriate that I should be doing my post on GHAJINI today.

Usually I wouldn't be here but Murgadoss wants me around as he is relying on me to guide him about the Urdu lyrics. So I'm here more as a translator. When I was offered GHAJINI I didn't take it very seriously as I'm not usually keen on remakes. But when I saw the film I really loved it. I did not like the last 30 minutes of the film but despite that the film had worked for me. I was not sure that I should do it as I had a problem with the end of the film, also I was not sure that it was my kind of film.

The person who persuaded me to go for it was Surya, the hero in the original. I had called him to congratulate him on his performance. While discussing the film I expressed my doubts, I felt that maybe I was not the right actor for the film. He just brushed aside my doubts and insisted that I was the right person for the Hindi remake. But what sealed it for me was my meeting with the director. He is a really spirited young director and I was very impressed meeting him. He has a really nice vibe around him and a very sharp instinct towards his work. Importantly, when I expressed my reservations regarding the end of the film he did not hesitate in seconding that he too was not very happy with that portion, and that in the remake that’s the portion that he felt we needed to rework.

Having made sure that we were on the same page and feeling a great amount of comfort in Murgadoss I went ahead with my decision. In this meeting I got to know how the story came about. Murgadoss had heard about a film called Memento and the concept had really fascinated him. Without having seen the film he went ahead and wrote his own version of the script and screenplay. Having finished his script he then saw Memento, found it very different from what he had written, and went ahead and made Ghajini. I had not seen Memento myself until then and was very curious to see it. On seeing it I thanked my stars that he had not seen Memento before having written his script. I proffered GHAJINI any day. Memento I just couldn't understand.

For those of you who have asked me why I don't have any problems doing a remake of a Hollywood film..., it’s not a remake. Watch both films and see for yourself. In my opinion this is a genuine case of 'inspired from', and nothing beyond that. Murgadoss has written a completely different and original screenplay and he should get the due credit for his work. Its being produced by Allu Arvind, Directed by Murgadoss, Music A.R. Rahman, lyrics Prasoon Joshi, cinematography Ravi K Chandran, sound Rassul.

The two female roles are being played by Asin and Jhia Khan. I thought Asin was stunning in the original so she was the natural choice for that role. For the other role a number of actresses were auditioned, the director found Jhia the best suited and so she has been finalised. I have not seen Jhia's earlier film but I did see her test and I agreed with the assessment of the director. We have begun shooting for the film and should complete the shoot by the end of the year. So I would guess it should be a 2008 May or June release. On the script level while we have stuck to the Tamil original for the most part we have made changes to the villain track, and have changed the last 30 odd minutes of the film including the climax. I was telling Rahman about this blog and told him about the various posts you guys had made criticising his work.... relax just kidding, told him you'll love him, got a big grin out of him, he sends his regards.

Couple of questions I have for those of you who have seen the Tamil version. What should we call the film in Hindi? Any ideas? And who is the right cast for the role of the villain? Those of you haven't seen the original please wait and see the Hindi version. Met someone I am a huge fan of on my flight here... Rajni garu! He is so cool, I just love him. He is the guy who really rocks.

Bye for now. Love.
