Life After Sivaji ...

Sivaji was out of my system after the response I had for all of you collectively. But I had underestimated like I seem to be doing consistently, the power of both Rajnikanth and the internet.

There is one consistent argument that many of you have put forward - and that is, that a personal opinion or blog needs to be posted on a totally personal blog site. I have mixed feelings on this one and so am bowing down to the feedback.

From now anyone who wants to know what I think about anything can go to come here http://senguptaspeak.blogspot.com

Let me warn you it may not be worth your while and my posts can be quite erratic. I write only when I am really moved to.

I am going to be gracious and let you have the last word.

If you want to know how I feel about that you know where to go come :)

u r gonna be 'gracios' eh, dint know pigs cud be that too ROTFL. So, now u wud be a gracious pig, right?
Neways, lemme throw away the my foolishness (that of calling a pig - a pig).
Sen Gupta, listen up.
Narcism has the following meanings & a few others (link: http://dictionary.reference.com/search?r=2&q=narcism)
1. inordinate fascination with oneself; excessive self-love;
2. Excessive love or admiration of oneself.

When you find a scene, or a dialogue or a script that revolves around a Star (any star) you think its the celeb in question that goes around creating those? Do you know who directed Sivaji? Do you know who is the dialog writer, script writer & screen play writer? Rajni (unlike other celebs) is a directors actor. He looks at every film as his first film and works with the same devotion.
If the director comes up with the story line (or the lack of it), script writer et al come up with the dialogues, how do you justify a Features Editor at IBN terming the movie as 'narcissist'? Does this self-professed & self-proclaimed 'pig' not know that what is shown on screen is not the actors idea - that it is most probably the director's brain-child?
After all Thalaivar is not Kamal - who ends up 'Ghost-directing' most of his movies.
And one more question,
In your 10 pointed response, you had the noodles to include your balls related comment, but comfortably excused yourself from the reference to a million people as 'pigs'.
Mebbe abhi 2.0 ya kabhi-nahi 0.2 (jo bhi ho) gave u the idea of 'spoof'-ing. But u aint no Cyrus Broacha - to command the respect of a spoofer. 1 cud accept Sam's (another pig in ur herd, right?) write-up as a pathetic attempt at spoofing, but urs was no-where close to one. Urs very clearly ws a reflection of ur mental state & an oppurtunity to vent out ur frustration.

Anuradha, I think people are being rather unjust in their condemnation of your article. I found it to be a piece of pithy humour. Though some creeps find you have insulted 'Shivaji' (that's how they've been spelling their idol's name), and Chennai airport (in the RIP cartoon), etc.... Still, I feel you've done nothing worse than insulting 'PIGS' - essentially docile animals that cause no harm to others...

we are not the people who cannot accept criticsm.we have read and heard critical view of film in both electronic and print media in national and regional level by well known personalities including suhasini manirathnam.they have pointed out both postives and negatives of the film.what hurt me most in your comment is the word narcissistic and self indulgent.whatever he does in his films whether the punch dialouges and other things he does all these to please his fans.if you know the real person rajnikanth you have not commented like that and you would have understood why his films has that kind of dialouges and scenes.if rajnikanth is egoistic person and really intereseted in self glorfying he would have have used his popularity to become poltician.and if he is narcissistic he would not appear bald in public life.his off-screen image made his fans to expect him to do all kind superhero stuffs and selfgloryfying comments.he is a good actor first.he had worked with somany great directors in tamil including balachander, balumahendra, mahendran, maniratnam and others.if you watch his late 70's and early 80's films you will know the potential of actor rajnikanth. but today he has reached the stage where he has not to do experiment with his roles.this is not my opinion.it is the opinion of famous film critic and cartoonist "madan".my request to you please don't underestimate the rajnikanth
the actor and person.and don't underestimate his fan also.when there is dearth of role models and good people in public life we admire
him for his simplicity and humbleness.

Hello Anonymous

Talking about Chauvinism there are some thinking actors in india who have displayed their progressive mind including feminism in thier films. But in real life they have betrayed thier wife and had affairs outside their marriage.

There are other actors who acts as thorough gentlemen in films. in real life they will do all kind of troubles to their female co-stars.We have heard actor even slapping their co actresses and we also hearing about exisistence of casting couch.

But in real life, rajnikanth's wife and daughters are both independent and modern. The actresses who had worked with rajnikanth will tell what kind of gentlemen he is.

Our indian films are hero centric and it is male dominated industry. Why you people are targeting rajnikanth only?.

Prasanna Kumar said...

"Rajnikanth" what is it, is that a name of a person, if yes who is he?. Now if I ask that question to somebody and if I said to him that I am an Tamilian I would be considered by him as an alien from mars or Jupiter even if he doesn't patronize the person who carries that name and I am sure millions of others who patronize that person more than what the word patronize means will consider me as some dumb head who is out of his mind and seriously needs an assistance of a lunatic asylum. "Super Star Rajnikanth" the name itself is enough to elicit the charismatic picture of a person, trying to wear a pair of glasses in his own branded way of style in the minds of all the tamilians around the world, he has been a phenomenon in the Tamil film industry. Now things have grown big with respect to Tamil film industry and so has the things about this actor. Now he is considered to be the highly paid actor in Asia next to Jackie Chan, now that is really big considering the fact that when the world talks about Indian film industry its only referring to films from Bollywood. The efforts of many great actors like Kamal Hasan to take Indian cinema to the world is commendable and is quiet worth mentioning but this man known only for his striking gimmicks and movies that never cross the boundaries of the genre called entertainers has for sure given an identity to the Tamil films by marking a dot in the map of world cinema. It would be a mistake to compare this Badshaa of box office with any other Indian actor, he has his own fan following who like him the way he is, in a world were glitz and glamour should be a part and parcel of any person who chooses to live in that world, this man has chosen to be real in the real life(posing for photographs with bald head, unkempt beard etc..), some find it idiotic about the way he looks and wonder how this person could be some one who has won the adorations of millions of fans around the world, what ever might be the reasons, at the end of the day an ordinary auto driver who goes for a movie after a days of hectic driving would want to come out of the movie hall with a satisfied smile on his face and Super Star movies have for sure stood up to those expectations and will continue to do so in future.

Sigh! Before i begin my rant, my disclaimers..

1. I am educated and literate, and know the difference between good literature and utter drivel
2. I am not a tamil fanatic, nor do I intend to cause any harm

Anuradha,

If you make a mistake once, it is forgiven. If you make it more than once then I think you deserve all the brickbats that you are getting and then some more.

While we all respect your right to personal opinion and so forth, it is your duty to respect others sentiments. I think that is the first thing they teach you at journalist school right?( I am assuming you went to one! and If you did I pity the school).

I read your original article, but refrained from commenting, assuming that you were a immature, egotistic and bigoted person who was a shame to the journalistic fraternity, but then you did not give up.

To sound parochial, if this were Bengal, you guys would have probably struck off work for a whole week now. We might not have Satyajit Ray's oscars, but neither do we have people who steal them.

Your critique sucked, because not only was it biased, but also derogatory. I am happy that this still has not gone to the Rajini fan clubs, for your sake.

The movie might be bad, but your language was worse, 'pig', 'crap' - I think this is more a reflection on your upbringing.

Yeah you might have balls( I like the way you chose the one amongst the thousand comments), but they are definitely in the wrong place.

I am a pig too, for you have dragged me into this.

hello anonymous
i know the diff between real and reel life.i also know and read about rajnikanth's personal life "before his marriage". he himself has admitted those wrong doings to the press at that time and whole world know about it.he is not hypocrite like other stars.
if he has continued those wrong doings he would have not got the respect from media and people and he would have never attained this status of stardom.

Those things u said about rajnikanth is his earlier part of life.Everyone including his fans knew about that. Those things came out in public only because of his outspoken nature. But because of his intrest in sprituality he was able to overcome those mistakes in that young age.Dont think only now he is intrested in sprituality.

But what we know about others?.How many people will accept their mistakes in thier life?.
People can do mistakes. But it is important how they rectify those mistakes and raise to position of mass adulation with their good conduct.

Dont think we are fools. The whole media have been following him for 30 years.

Hi Anu. I totally agree with you. I pity the people and the so called fans, who have a made a blog into a east- south, or a north - south war. No idea in which world they are living in. But yes.. one thing is now clear.. the reason.. such crap movies get full houses, because of the kind of fan following he has. If these re the fans.. I am afraid he can never do any movie better than them. To deliver someting good, somebody must expect good. But if such is his audience, then we will see more of this crap in future..

People when you believe that what you are trying to say is true whether its digging at anuradha or the Movie sivaji why do you wear a veil of anonymity, it just shows your hypocrisy rather than the correctness in what you want to express, I am a fan of Mr.Rajnikanth and i Totally disagree with Ms. Anuradha and i have replied to all her posts. Let us give some respect to the human being on the other side who is going to read all your replies, she might be a person who has a view totally wrong about Sivaji that doesn't make her completely Bad, she might be a good Daughter or a sister or a friend of someone we don't know, we may not know how good as a person she is, so i would request all you people who wanna show your anger at Anuradha maintain some decorum !!!

it might be true that the script, scenes, etc. may be unreal. But coming to realise it, life would be really boring if all movies were set in complete reality.

I cannot personally think of a single action movie (across multiple languages) which has not had unrealistic sequences.

When you watch a Rajni movie, you are not watching the individual. He represents more than that. You will have to imagine yourself as seeing a superhero movie, a la superman. Try that and you will find yourself much more comfortable.

For someone seeing a Rajni movie for the first time or for someone who believes only in 'artistic' cinema, the movie would be a joke. For fans like us who have been used to years of Rajni movies, the aura he carries is unmatchable.

The ethos of an individual matters heavily. Rajni movies give the audience ample entertainment and the world of fantasy in the movies definitely give them the belief that their lives are worth living.

Just forget everything else, and gear up for the next ride !!!

Anuradha,

You had no doubt underestimated the power of both Rajnikanth and the internet :-) One of the best comments so far was: The two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking collections for this movie may have far exceeded the total box office collections of Jhoom Barabar Jhoom :-)

Another interesting comment was: In the film BOSS means "Bachelor Of Social Service". For the trade it means "Box Office Super Star".

Anonymous said...

A personal opinion is perfectly fine my dear.. but having some sort of understanding in the subject(in this case-the movie and more importantly the dialouges in tamil) before you do could be a good idea.

Good Evening.

Had post this comment in your blog - Thank you Sivaji. Not sure if it was published. Anyways, This is what I had to say:

If it was a personal opinion, why are you doing it on CNN's site? Do it on some blogspot.com kinda sites. So, I assume some day you might say - the policy that finance ministry announced is a crap and party alliance that Sonia or Advani chose is a crap. In that case, it doesn't make sense for me to follow CNN. I would think - all these guys on CNN IBN who talk on the channel and blog are opinionative. Personal opinion though!

Rajnikanth actor not equal to Rajnikanth person - One of the readers whom you chose to give the prize, was actually commenting on Anuradha media reporter not Anuradha as a person. Why are you so much worried over his/her comment?

Sivaji's made money so it can't be bad - Come on ! if it was not for number crunching, why did your channel choose to take interest on this movie? And, now don't tell me that you watch all the movies that are released in India. If yes, you are a great soul to strike balance between work life and personal life.

CNN IBN not equal to Anuradha SenGupta - How can a reader perceive it that way? You have blogged this on CNN's site. It is to do with the social responsibility of this news channel. Of course, I've lost the respect that I had for this channel and website. I would be happy with NDTV, NDTV Profit and Times Now. For everything else, there is internet.

Anonymous said...

Some comments are really cool. Especially the one that talks about journalism & number crunching.

Lol @ Vasanth's comment.

But, there is something really unique. Its surprising to see this movie being screened twice in some remote not so industrialized parts of U.S where there are more farmers and major occupation is agriculture.

The popcorn and burger vendors were eager to know more about Rajinikant.

There has been mad rush in almost all places across U.S - and Man! these theatre owners are making some serious money.

Not sure about EU though. Germany France and the U.K has a huge tamilian population too.

Anuradha,

You said you had underestimated the power of both Rajnikanth and the internet. One is reminded of a decade-old story involving Manorama, who decided to campaign for Jayalalitha in the 1996 assembly elections when there was a strong wave against her misrule. The whole Tamil film industry had turned against Jayalalitha but Manorama chose to side her. Rajnikanth warned the people of Tamil Nadu through Sun TV that if they voted Jayalalitha back, not even God could save the state!

Manorama irked the whole industry by acting on emotions and going against Rajnikanth, and the end result was an unofficial boycott of the hyper-sensitive woman. Suddenly she found that she had more enemies in the industry, and those were days full of tears. It was only when Rajnikanth invited her to act in his film that she became a part of the industry once again. Ask her about this incident, and she says, "That was a black chapter in my life. I do not want to remember it."

I think you have become a trend setter anuradha, all the humans and pigs who are carving for attention are planning to follow you, one has done that just now and he is surprise surprise a bong, a journalist from cnn ibn(im sure not worth a salt because if he was a good one he would be covering some good event instead of showing his macho aryan image)

you subtely showed ur aryan supremacy (or atleast what you thought) but this fool just wrote it down in the blog.

anyway past is past, we have no hatred against you. you are most welcome to Chennai, I will buy you a Sivaji ticket and explain the movie to you (of course I will not comment abt jadi potuko) and ofcourse you can blog abt it, but at the same time pls realize I will not sit through a bengali movie with no subtitles , even if you buy me the plane tickets, movie tickets ,free popcorn and even if you give it much hype in CNN IBN.

now that we have become friends, can you do me a small favour, can you pls tell me the superior aryan bong in CNN IBN that if the such poor english speaking dravidians were not around, the famous IT companies would not have existed (pls dont think noida is the IT hub, it is just a branch office for Bangalore), if these IT ppl were not around, not much Rupees would be floating around, if not much Rupees were around, CNN IBN would not be around, so typically the bong hero would not have a job and with his IQ he will be a ball collector in the cricket stadiums.

and I will also help you to locate him, you will find him in Rajdeeps desk with a finger in his mouth or at the entrance of CNN IBN office searching for a job.

THIS IS THE OFFICIAL ANURADHA SENGUPTA hate club! Anybody who hates her can join this club.

Anuradha Sengupta is a journalist in CNN IBN. Nobody took notice of her. Nobody even cared whether she existed or not.

It was from the moment she started to TRASH-TALK about our “THALAIVAR” SUPERSTAR RAJNI and his latest movie SIVAJI in her blog, she became the one-stop spit-stop for all DIEHARD RAJNI FANS. This was her road to become famous.

If you still haven’t checked her article about Sivaji, plz chk it out.
1. This one started it all, the moment it was uploaded, in a matter of hours 4000+ thrashing comments landed in the website ibnlive.com
http://www.ibnlive.com/blogs/anuradhasengupta/164/2061/sivaji-the-boss-of-crap.html
She became scared to death after seeing the responses.

2. She made things worse, by commenting on the fans now. Again she was thrashed with terrible comments.
http://www.ibnlive.com/blogs/anuradhasengupta/164/2079/thank-you-sivaji.html

3. Later she was forced to apologise publicly in her own blog.
http://www.ibnlive.com/blogs/anuradhasengupta/164/2134/life-after-sivaji.html

RAJNI IMPACT!
She stopped writing in IBNLIVE, and opened her own blog in blogspot.
http://senguptaspeak.blogspot.com/

She also roped in her colleague Sanjeeb Mukherjea for her support, who failed miserably.
http://www.ibnlive.com/blogs/sanjeebmukherjea/262/2126/rajini-the-blogbuster.html

FINAL VERDICT:
ANURADHA SENGUPTA SUX AND SUX BIG TIME!

At the SA Box Office this weekend
by Ailsa Windsor

Sivaji (The Boss) (Showing at , The Zone – Rosebank; Cavendish Square – Cape Town; Gateway and Suncoast Casino)
Starring: Rajinikanth, Shriya Saran, Vivek, Prakashraj, Manivannan

it has been a while since Ster Kinekor has screened movies which have emerged from the South of India – this is about to change! Sivaji (The Boss) is a perfect example of East meeting West – it has all the usual eastern ingredients of song, dance, love, drama and more while parodying some of the more popular western films – a cause of much mirth.

With elements taken from ‘Desperado’ , ‘The Matrix’ and ‘Kung Fu Hustle’ among others Sivaji takes the audience on a hilarious journey with a man who has been educated in America and has high hopes of establishing a university in his home town. However, when it is established that he wants to provide free education to the masses he meets with much opposition.

This Tamil film with English sub-titles shows how Sivaji (Rajinikanth) has to bribe his way to the top eventually emerging as a ‘mafia-type’ boss complete with parody. Keeping on the lighter side is the way he inveigles his way into Tamilselvi’s heart (Shriya). Well worth watching (AW)
